About
Marco Mezquida was born in Maó in 1987. The musical DNA of this brilliant composer, pianist, improviser and bandleader is characterized by an eclectic and versatile style, drawing on jazz, flamenco, pop, classical, contemporary and, of course, improvisation.
Four times named “Musician of the Year” by the Association of Jazz and Modern Music Musicians of Catalonia, he presented his solo piano concert at the incredible Palau de la Música, a privilege usually reserved for seasoned pianists. With a wealth of experience and in demand by a large number of renowned artists, he has already performed in major venues across 32 countries on 4 different continents.
Since 2015, Marco Mezquida has performed around 180 concerts a year and recorded over 50 albums. In addition to the 27 recordings on which he holds the role of leader or co-leader, he has also appeared as a sideman on dozens of other projects. His personal projects include his formidable duo with guitarist Chicuelo, his trio with Aleix Tobias and Martin Meléndez (three albums recorded together: “Letter to Milos”, ‘Talismán’ and ‘Ravel’s Dreams’, which revisits the music of the famous French composer), his superb duet with singer Silvia Pérez Cruz, the Blind Date show produced with dancer Sol Picó, the MAP trio (Mezquida-Aurignac-Prats), not forgetting his ‘Pieris’ album, recorded with two Danish artists (Mezquida-Bodilsen-Andersen) and his captivating solo performances. A format that has earned him the nickname “piano magician”.
